Stationery System
A stationery system is a set of designs, including a letterhead, envelope, and business card that share a similar logo and graphic treatment.

Exploration Overview
The assignments in this section will give you a chance to practice designing a number of logos and business cards, plus a stationery system for a selected company.


Logo Project
Design at least 5 logo samples for a selected company.

• abstract element logo
• illustration logo
• decorative frame

Evaluation Criteria

  • You must complete one of each type of logos listed in the assignment requirements.
  • The logos must be in your portfolio document to recieve credit.

Prerequisite:
You should complete and understand the following presentations before you begin this project:
Intro to Typography
Classifing Type
Making Type choices

Do This

  • Complete presentation Intro to Logos
  • Look through the Logo Samples
  • Find a local company from the phonebook or invent one.
  • Use Adobe Illustrator® and / or Adobe Photoshop® to design 5 logos (one of each type) for your selected company.
  • Save each logo as a separate Illustrator and / or Photoshop file in your portfolio folder.
  • Place your logos on page a of your portfolio document.

Business Card Project
Design at least five business cards using logos from the Logo project.

  • All business cards must be created in Adobe InDesign.
  • Business cards must follow rules from the Effective Stationery System presentation.
  • Both horizontal and vertical examples are required.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Both horizontal and vertical business cards must be represented.
  • Points will be deducted if rules from the Stationery System presentation are not followed.

Do This

  • Complete the How To Design An Effective Stationery System
  • Look through the samples in the Business Card Gallery.
  • Create a new InDesign document.
  • Complete 5 business card layouts (2" x 3 1/2")
  • When completed, perform preflight and package operations.
  • Publish a pdf file version of your business cards.

Stationery System Project

Design a stationery system that includes a business card, letterhead, and envelope using Adobe In Design exported as a pdf document.

  • The total layout should be in an 11" x 17" vertical format.
  • The general layout of the stationery system should follow the sample.
  • When completed, perform preflight and package operations.
  • Publish a pdf file version of your stationery systems.

Evaluation Criteria

  • The completed stationery system is worth 300 points.
  • Points will be taken off if rules from the Stationery System presentation are not followed.

Do This

  • Take a look at the stationery system sample.
  • Create a new InDesign document, format 11" x 17" vertical.
  • Place and arrange any linked graphic files.
  • Complete the layout and perform preflight and package operations.
  • Publish a pdf file version of your stationery system.
